Wagstaffes History

From its humble beginnings in the 1940’s Wagstaffes of Whitchurch has grown from strength to strength. Wagstaffes started life at the end of the war as a shoe repair and small leather goods maker, run by Fred Wagstaffe and his sons George & Harry. The two sons moved the business to larger premises in the early 1970’s as a footwear retailer, Wagstaffe the Shoemen, whilst retaining the repair workshop. The store was sold when George & Harry retired, and has changed hands twice before being purchased by the present owners Andy & Nikki Bettison in 2007.

In 2008 Wagstaffes moved again, to larger premises where it remains today. The addition of ladies fashions came later that year, and two unused stock rooms on the basement level were converted in to a gift shop, Huckleberry in 2012. Throughout the trading history of the business the ethos has remained the same – quality goods and excellent customer service.

We look forward to helping you find just what you’re looking for.
